This last week I witnessed two different Taurus revolvers malfunction.

1st one was new out of the box. Failed to rotate cylinder. Double checked to make sure everything was in its proper place and cylinder properly closed and locked in. Second attempt to fire (using double action) again failed to rotate cylinder. Owner put it back in the box and is dealing with getting it repaired.

2nd gun failed to fire two times. The primer was struck just hard enough to make a very minor dent in the primer. Shooter held gun with muzzle pointed down range in case of hang fire. After examining the round the shooter attempted to fire it again and it did shoot. So the actual round was not at fault. Within 20 more rounds it happened again. After making sure the round was not going to go off it was examined and the same very light indention on the primer was there just like before. We rendered the Taurus junk and unsafe to continue shooting until it had been repaired.

These are two that I have witnessed. Not to mention all of the other problems I have heard about Taurus revolvers.

Both guns were 38 special, not that it matters. What really matters is that they were both Taurus.

This forum is proving invaluable from the get go, I was considering buying a Tarus revolver for my wife. Thanks guys!

The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. 'Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?' 'No ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle.'

Cowboy glad you saw this before you made that purchase/mistake. Take care.

Good to know!!! My son and I have decided to enter the 1911 arena, we were looking at the Taurus models...probably because of their reasonable price more than anything else.

Thanks for the heads up.

Hey Serbiandevil I looked at the Taurus PT1911 at one of the local gun dealers and the finish on it was crap. The checkering was so bad that it looked like it was cast molded that way. Maybe it was. Might be how they shave money off the price. Needless to say I was not impressed at all. I would say Smith and Wesson, Springfield, Kimber would be the way to go and worth the extra money to own one. Just my 2 cents.

actually i own a taurus pt1911ar and it has been a great shooter for me. i have about 700 rounds through it and it has functioned almost flawlessly(except for the fact that it took two hits to fire about three of my friends reloads). so i say 3 out of 700 and absolutely no faults when using factory ammo. It is very accurate and it has a smooth action. lawlesinc is right about the shotty checkering and the cheap bluing but other than that it is a fine piece. it completely serves it function as a range shooter and home defense. i would totally trust my life with it.

I've got one of their 1911's and it too has been a good shooter. The only complaint I've had is the finish didn't hold up very well as it is carried daily but other than that it's been great. Eats all my friends reloads. And I took care of the checkering problem myself.

I was hoping you would find your way to this discussion Bang. So you you do like the Taurus 1911? Have you fired others to compare it against out of curiosity?

I have never had any experience with Taurus 1911's.

Yes and for the price it's not a bad gun. It's no custom Springer or Kimber but it does the job. The only thing I would have done different if it would have been available when I bought it was get it in stainless but they hadn't come out yet. But then again this is just one gun so your results may very!

I have a Taurus PT145 and a PT1911, shoot 100rds a week through each one and have not had any malfunctions. I use my PT145 for concealed carry and my PT1911 for pistol shoots. I have witnessed Colts and H&Ks malfunction, this does not make all Colts and H&Ks crappy guns. Some people are so hung up on name brands that nothing else is good.

I have only owned one taurus, and got rid of it in about a month after I learned myself just how poor the quality control is, and the complete lack of reliability. If you don't have much money I recommend Keltec, or for a little more glock.

Hey Poobear I also know of a couple of people that have a PT1911 and they dont really have any problems other than horrible finish. The problem is that Taurus revolvers are showing their true colors. The stories just keep coming. I heard (did not witness) of another Taurus revolver having problems. Fact is that any good revolver should perform reliably. I am not a name brand snob so I have no hidden agenda to pick with Taurus. In fact a lot of people would consider them to be a name brand. Their revolvers are crap and that's just my 2 cents.

Going to check out the new Taurus TCP that I saw at Cabelas on Monday. Looked very good in the case, I haven't really had the opportunity to take a close look at it, but it is supposed to be one very good looking pistol. Made in the USA, locks open after the last round is fired, rated for +P ammo. and is supposed to have one of the better double action triggers around, breaks at 4 pounds and is crisp and the reset is very short.

Great reports on the Slim 709 model in 9mm.I read in a magazine (I think it was Guns and Ammo) that this is the single stack that Glock should have made" That's enough for me to check that out....

I would trust a taurus over a kel-tec. my friend had a kel-tec .40cal, it was a junk gun, would not feed round for nothing, very inaccurate, and you would have to pull the trigger 2-3 times some times to fire a round. i have not had a bad experience with taurus yet except for the ambi safety on my 1911. a wilson combat ambi safety will remedy that.

Need to update on my Taurus PT709....awesome pistol...slim, lightweight, very easy to conceal carry. I am currently wearing my Smart Carry holster and both products are making me very pleased with my decision to purchase them.
I am hoping to put another 250 rounds through the pistol this weekend and sight it in. Unlike alot of small pistols, the PT709 has adjustable rear sights, let's see if I can use them to get my groups to tighten up and shoot closer to point of aim. If I get the opportunity to go, I will post pictures of my targets.
